DR PEPPER BBQ SAUCE

My family is stationed in Italy with my husband, Lieutenant William Robert Blackman. William grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and I'm from Texas, so the dish that spells "home" for us is a good ol' barbecue. Tips:

  • Use a variety of peppers to add different levels of heat and flavor to your sauce. For a milder sauce, use more sweet peppers and fewer hot peppers. For a spicier sauce, use more hot peppers and fewer sweet peppers.
  • Roast the peppers before using them. Roasting the peppers will help to bring out their natural sweetness and flavor. You can roast the peppers in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 minutes, or until they are charred and softened.
  • Use a food processor or blender to puree the peppers. This will help to create a smooth and creamy sauce.
  • Add other ingredients to your sauce to taste. Some common additions include garlic, onion, cumin, and chili powder. You can also add a bit of sweetness with honey or agave nectar.
  • Simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes. This will help to allow the flavors to meld together and develop.
