one plastic oven bag
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup dr pepper
2 tablespoons orange juice
2 teaspoons dijon mustard

If you don't have an oven bag, place the ham cut side down in the baking dish and wrap tightly with foil. Let sit at room temperature for 1 1/2 hours. Adjust oven rack to the lowest position and heat the oven to 250°.
  • 2. Bake the ham until the center registers 100° on an instant read thermometer, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, about 14 minutes per pound if using a plastic oven bag, about 17 minutes per pound if using foil, depending on the weight of the ham.

DR PEPPER OR COLA GLAZED HAM

Dr Pepper or Cola Glazed Ham image

I love the flavor that Dr Pepper gives to this ham recipe. The glaze is not hard at all. It really works well with a spiral sliced ham. After glazing the ham, save some to accompany the slices as you serve it. Our family love it. I am sure you will too. My daughter Briana request this recipe often and also volunteers to make...

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 c dr pepper or cola
1 1/2 c light brown sugar
1/4 c fresh orange juice
1/2 c dijon mustard
1 7-10 lb. spiral sliced ham

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium size sauce pan add Dr pepper, sugar , orange juice ^ mustard, whisk together till well blended. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 15 to 25 minutes or until mixture becomes syrupy, and makes about 1 1/2 cups.
  • 2. Follow package directions to bake ham. usually about 14 minutes per pound for plastic bag or 17 minutes per pound if wrapped in foil at 250 degrees F. But follow package direction. During last 10 to 15 minutes of baking ham. Remove from oven. Roll back bag or peel back foil. Glaze liberally with ham glaze, and return to oven for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, until glaze is sticky. Save extra glaze to serve with ham.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: A fully cooked ham is best for this recipe. You can use a bone-in or boneless ham, but a bone-in ham will have more flavor.
  • Score the ham: Scoring the ham helps the glaze penetrate the meat and makes it more flavorful. Use a sharp knife to make shallow cuts in the ham in a diamond pattern.
  • Make the glaze: The glaze is what gives this ham its delicious flavor. Be sure to use a good quality Dr. Pepper and a dark brown sugar. You can also add other spices and seasonings to the glaze to taste.
  • Bake the ham: Bake the ham in a preheated oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for about 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Baste the ham with the glaze every 30 minutes or so to keep it moist.
  • Let the ham rest: Once the ham is cooked, let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Dr. Pepper glazed ham is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. The sweet and savory glaze gives the ham a unique flavor that will please everyone at your table. Whether you are serving it for a holiday dinner or a casual get-together, this ham is sure to be a hit.
