3 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups buttermilk, at room temperature
3/4 cup sour cream, at room temperature

Add the eggs, one at a time, and the vanilla and mix well. Combine the buttermilk, sour cream, and coffee. On low speed, add the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture alternately in thirds, beginning with the buttermilk mixture and ending with the flour mixture. Mix the batter only until blended.

Off the heat, add the corn syrup and vanilla and allow the chocolate mixture to cool to room temperature. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whisk the chocolate mixture and softened butter on medium speed for a few minutes, until it's thickened.
  • Spread the frosting evenly on the cake. Have the children decorate the cake with M&M's.

THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE - (4.5/5)

The Best Chocolate Cake Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by LETSEAT

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons King Arthur Flour Black Cocoa, optional
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup strong black coffee (I used Green Mountain Coffee's Vermont Country Blend)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans or one 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Set aside. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment or in a large bowl with an electric mixer, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa(s), baking soda, baking powder. Mix on low until dry ingredients are thoroughly combined. Add eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for about two minutes; the batter will be thin. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes for round pans, 35 to 40 minutes for rectangular pan or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost as desired. I used a simple and delicious Chocolate Buttercream Frosting from Savory Sweet Life. One batch was perfect for this layered chocolate cake.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. This means using real butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, and pure vanilla extract.
  • Make sure to measure your ingredients accurately. This is especially important for the baking powder and baking soda, as too much or too little can affect the cake's texture.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake at the correct temperature and for the correct amount of time. Underbaking will result in a gooey cake, while overbaking will make the cake dry.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help the frosting set properly.
  • If you want a rich, decadent frosting, use a ganache frosting. Ganache frosting is made with chocolate and cream, and it has a smooth, silky texture.

Conclusion:

Double Wicked Fudge Cake is a delicious, moist, and chocolatey cake that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your Double Wicked Fudge Cake turns out perfectly every time.
