DOROTHY LYNCH® STYLE SALAD DRESSING

This is my husband's favorite dressing, and it is the best dressing to use in taco salad. The original dressing was made in St. Paul, Nebraska and is sold in the midwest but is becoming more expensive. This recipe is very similar to the store version and uses products I regularly have in my pantry. We love it.

My husband's grandma gave us this recipe and it tastes just like the real thing. Very easy to make (if my husband can make it anyone can!). He made a double batch and that gave us about two quart canning jars full.

1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper

  • 2. Pour into canning jar or container and refrigerate overnight.
  • 3. To thicken dressing add 1/4 teaspoon cornstarch, or as needed.(this part is optional). Refrigerate overnight for best flavor.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients. The fresher your ingredients, the better your dressing will taste. This is especially true for the mayonnaise, milk, and vinegar.
  • Make sure your mayonnaise is at room temperature. This will help it blend smoothly with the other ingredients.
  • Gradually whisk in the vinegar. This will help prevent the dressing from curdling.
  • Season to taste. Add salt and pepper to taste, and adjust the amount of sugar or sweetener as desired.
  • Chill the dressing before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
