DORA'S RICH FRENCH ONION SOUP

Dora's Rich French Onion Soup image

This soup was first inspired by Mrs Weasley's onion soup that she serves to Harry upon his arrival at the Burrow soon after the end of his 5th year at Hogwarts. From that I looked at through my favourite old cookbook and adding some personal flare, created the best, thick, rich onion soup I have ever had.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the soup will be. Use fresh onions, a good quality beef broth, and a flavorful cheese.
  • Caramelize the onions slowly: This is the key to getting a rich, flavorful soup. Cook the onions over low heat until they are very soft and golden brown.
  • Use a variety of onions: Yellow onions are the most common type of onion used in French onion soup, but you can also use white onions, red onions, or shallots. Each type of onion has a slightly different flavor, so using a variety will add depth and complexity to the soup.
  • Add a splash of wine: A little bit of white wine adds a nice acidity to the soup. Use a dry white wine, such as a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: There are many different ways to make French onion soup. Feel free to experiment with different ingredients and techniques to find a recipe that you love.
