This recipe was born out of puppy boredom. Rascal loves Kim D's recipe #28099 but he wanted some variety so taking her lead I came up with this version. Now he has 2 favorite cookie recipes.

BANANA OAT DOG TREAT COOKIES RECIPE - (4.2/5)

Banana Oat Dog Treat Cookies Recipe - (4.2/5) image

Provided by judet

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 - 3 large ripened bananas, mashed
2 cups quick cooking oats
1 teaspoon ginger, optional
1 teaspoon, cinnamon, optional
1 tablespoon chia, flax or sesame seeds, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180° C (350° F) and line a cookie tray with parchment paper. In a medium size bowl, mix the bananas and cooking oats together. *Since the size of bananas varies, you may need to add a little extra oatmeal to get a consistency where your cookie dough will hold together. If using optional seeds and spices, add to the mixture and mix through thoroughly. Drop small teaspoon size portions onto the cookie tray. You can either leave portions as they drop onto the cookie tray or flatten them slightly with your fingers, to make small round cookies (I made some of each). Bake for 15 - 20 minutes (Ovens vary). Remove tray from oven and allow cookies to rest on the tray for 5 - 10 minutes. Place cookies to wire cooling rack to cool completely. When cooled, store in a zip lock bag or an air-tight container. They will last longer if stored in refrigerator.

PUMPKIN DOG COOKIES

Categories     Squash

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons dry milk
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 1/2 cups brown rice flour *
1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350. In large bowl, whisk together eggs and pumpkin to smooth. Stir in dry milk, sea salt, and dried parsley (if using, optional). Add brown rice flour gradually, combining with spatula or hands to form a stiff, dry dough. Turn out onto lightly floured surface (can use the brown rice flour) and if dough is still rough, briefly knead and press to combine. Roll dough between 1/4 - 1/2″ - depending on your dog's chew preferences, - and use biscuit or other shape cutter to punch shapes, gathering and re-rolling scraps as you go. Place shapes on cookie sheet, no greasing or paper necessary. If desired, press fork pattern on biscuits before baking, a quick up-and-down movement with fork, lightly pressing down halfway through dough. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven and carefully turn biscuits over, then bake additional 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely on rack before feeding to dog. * Brown rice flour gives the biscuits crunch and promotes better dog digestion. Many dogs have touchy stomachs or allergies, and do not, like many people I know, tolerate wheat. Makes up to 75 small (1″) biscuits or 50 medium biscuits

Tips:

  • Choose the right ingredients: Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best results. Look for organic, whole-wheat flour, and natural peanut butter without added sugars or oils.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough: Chilling the dough before baking will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Bake the cookies at the right temperature: The temperature of your oven will affect the texture of the cookies. Bake the cookies at the temperature specified in the recipe.
  • Let the cookies cool completely: Let the cookies cool completely before storing or serving. This will help them to firm up and develop their full flavor.

Conclusion:

Baking homemade dog cookies is a fun and rewarding experience. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create delicious and healthy treats that your furry friend will love. These recipes are a great place to start, but feel free to experiment with different flavors and ingredients to create your own unique dog cookie recipes.
