Categories     Salads

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (12 oz.) can solid white albacore tuna in water, well drained
1-2 tsp lemon juice concentrate, if you have fresh on hand by all means use that instead
1 tsp lemon zest, optional for if you have a lemon on hand
1/2 tsp dried dill
1/2 c heavy mayo, i always use hellmann's
1/8 tsp salt, or more to taste
1 Tbsp finely chopped celery
dash coarse ground pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Drain tuna well. Mix ingredients in small bowl til nicely combined.
  • 2. *Optional: 4-5 tomatoes, slice down through top but not all the way through into 6-8 wedges. Fan out wedges and fill with salad for stuffed tomatoes. Serve with a few crackers for scooping. 4-5 slices toasted bread, 4-5 slices tomatoes and 4-5 slices cheese for tuna melts. Bake in 375 oven for about 5 minutes or til cheese is melted. Cheeses that work well: american, velveeta, muenster, swiss, gouda, havarti, mozzarella, provolone and fontina.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality tuna: Opt for tuna that is packed in water or olive oil and avoid tuna packed in brine, as it can be too salty.
  • Choose the right mayonnaise: For a classic tuna salad, use a mayonnaise made with real eggs and oil. Avoid low-fat or fat-free mayonnaise, as it can make the salad dry and bland.
  • Add some crunch: Celery and onion are classic additions to tuna salad, but you can also add other crunchy vegetables, such as carrots, radishes, or bell peppers.
  • Don't overdo the mayonnaise: Too much mayonnaise can make the tuna salad heavy and greasy. Aim for a ratio of 1 part mayonnaise to 3 parts tuna.
  • Season to taste: Be sure to season the tuna salad with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices to taste. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice or a dollop of Dijon mustard for extra flavor.
  • Chill before serving: Tuna salad is best served chilled, so be sure to refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Conclusion:

Dilled tuna salad is a classic dish that is perfect for a quick and easy lunch or dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover tuna. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a delicious and satisfying tuna salad that the whole family will enjoy.
