Categories     Vegetable

Time 23m

Yield 4-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 lb Brussels sprout, trimmed with x cut on bottom
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

Steps:

  • Place sprouts and water in a 1 quart casserole dish.
  • Cover and microwave on high 7 minutes or until tender-crisp then drain.
  • Add remaining ingredients.
  • Toss together to coat sprouts.
  • Serve.

Tips:

  • Select firm and vibrant Brussels sprouts: Choose sprouts with tightly closed leaves and a deep green color. Avoid any with yellowing or wilting leaves.
  • Trim and clean the sprouts: Remove any damaged or loose outer leaves. Cut off the stem end and make a small X-shaped incision at the base of each sprout to help them cook evenly.
  • Use high-quality Dijon mustard: The type of Dijon mustard you use can significantly impact the flavor of the dish. Opt for a grainy Dijon mustard with a robust and tangy flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your preference: If you prefer a sweeter dish, you can add more honey or maple syrup to the glaze. Taste the glaze before adding it to the sprouts and adjust according to your liking.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When searing the sprouts, make sure not to overcrowd the pan. This will prevent them from cooking evenly and becoming soggy.
  • Glaze the sprouts thoroughly: Once the sprouts are seared, add the glaze and toss them gently to coat them evenly. Make sure each sprout is glazed to enhance its flavor and appearance.

Conclusion:

These Dijon-braised Brussels sprouts are a delightful side dish that combines sweet, tangy, and savory flavors. The crispy caramelized exterior and tender-crisp interior of the sprouts make them a perfect accompaniment to various main courses. Whether you're preparing a holiday feast or a weeknight meal, this recipe is sure to impress your family and friends.
