DIFFERENT CHICKEN DIVAN

My mother has made this since I was little and I believe all 7 of her children know how to make it. Everyone that I have made it for, loves it.

Time 1h40m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 lb chicken breast
1 pkg frozen broccoli
3 can(s) cream of chicken soup
1 Tbsp curry powder
1 pkg shredded cheddar cheese
1 c bread crumbs, dry
1 stick melted margarine

Steps:

  • 1. Boil Chicken breasts (or whole, or cut up chicken) till done. Remove from liquid to cool on plate. (when chicken is cool, shred) Pour bag of frozen broccoli into liquid chicken was cooked in and cook slightly till broccoli is still slightly firm. (You may also use fresh broccoli.)
  • 2. Layer broccoli in 13x9 baking dish. Layer shredded chicken over broccoli. In medium saucepan, mix soup (do not add water) and curry powder. Amount of curry powder may be adjusted to taste. Heat mixture to warm.
  • 3. Pour soup mixture over chicken. Sprinkle cheese over soup mixture.(More cheese may be added if preferable.) Sprinkle bread crumbs over cheese. Spoon melted butter over bread crumbs. Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 25-35 minutes or till top is golden brown. Let cool slightly. Serve with buttered rolls.
  • 4. All amounts may be adjusted to taste. I actually have never measured the items, I just make what feels right to the size pan, etc. that I am using.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Organic chicken, fresh vegetables, and creamy bechamel sauce will make all the difference.
  • Don't overcook the chicken. Chicken breasts should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Overcooked chicken will be dry and tough.
  • Make sure the sauce is thick and creamy. The sauce should be able to coat the chicken and vegetables without being too runny.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your divan. Broccoli, carrots, peas, and mushrooms are all popular choices. You can also add other vegetables that you like, such as asparagus, zucchini, or bell peppers.
  • Top the divan with a crispy breadcrumb topping. This will add a delicious crunch to the dish.

Conclusion:

Chicken divan is a classic dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, delicious, and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you're serving it for a special dinner or a casual weeknight meal, chicken divan is sure to be a hit.
