Tips:
- For the best results, use Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, as they have a high starch content that makes them creamy and smooth when mashed.
- Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces so that they cook evenly.
- Do not overcook the potatoes, as this will make them gummy. Once they are tender when pierced with a fork, they are done.
- Drain the potatoes well before mashing them. This will help to prevent them from becoming watery.
- Use a potato ricer or a food mill to get the smoothest mashed potatoes. If you don't have either of these tools, you can mash the potatoes with a potato masher or an electric hand mixer.
- Add butter, milk, and seasonings to taste. You can also add other ingredients, such as cheese, bacon, or herbs, to create different flavor variations.
- Serve the mashed potatoes immediately, or keep them warm in a slow cooker until ready to serve.
