Time 45m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 8

12 whole fresh mushrooms
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel. Carefully break off stems. Chop stems extremely fine, discarding tough end of stems.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and chopped mushroom stems to the skillet. Fry until any moisture has disappeared, taking care not to burn garlic. Set aside to cool.
  • When garlic and mushroom mixture is no longer hot, stir in cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, black pepper, onion powder and cayenne pepper. Mixture should be very thick. Using a little spoon, fill each mushroom cap with a generous amount of stuffing. Arrange the mushroom caps on prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the mushrooms are piping hot and liquid starts to form under caps.

Tips:

  • Choose the right mushrooms. Button mushrooms are the most common type of mushroom used for stuffing, but you can also use cremini mushrooms, portobello mushrooms, or shiitake mushrooms. Just be sure to choose mushrooms that are fresh and firm.
  • Clean the mushrooms thoroughly. Use a damp paper towel to wipe away any dirt or debris from the mushrooms. You can also rinse the mushrooms under cold water, but be sure to pat them dry before stuffing them.
  • Remove the stems. Use a sharp knife to remove the stems from the mushrooms. You can discard the stems or save them for another use, such as making mushroom soup.
  • Stuff the mushrooms. You can stuff the mushrooms with a variety of fillings, such as bread crumbs, vegetables, meat, or cheese. Be creative and experiment with different flavors.
  • Bake the mushrooms. Stuffed mushrooms are typically baked in the oven until the filling is cooked through and the mushrooms are tender. The baking time will vary depending on the type of stuffing you use.
  • Serve the mushrooms. Stuffed mushrooms can be served as an appetizer, side dish, or main course. They are also a great addition to buffets and potlucks.

Conclusion:

Stuffed mushrooms are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy appetizer or side dish, give stuffed mushrooms a try.
