Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 c all purpose flour
1/4 c cornstarch
1 1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp ground pepper
1 c flat beer or nonalcoholic beer
3 egg whites
2 1/2 lb fresh asparagus
ranch style dressing
OIL FOR DEEP FT FRYER

Steps:

  • 1. In large bowl , combine first 7 ingredients: Combine beer and egg whites; stir just until mistened.. Dip asparagus into batter.. Heat oil to 375º.. Fry asparagus on each side 2 or 3 minutes or till golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • To choose the best asparagus, look for spears that are firm and have tightly closed tips. Avoid spears that are limp or have yellow or brown spots.
  • Before frying, pat the asparagus dry with a paper towel. This will help the batter adhere to the asparagus and prevent it from becoming soggy.
  • To make a light and crispy batter, use a combination of all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and baking powder. You can also add seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, or paprika to taste.
  • To get a golden brown color, fry the asparagus in hot oil. The ideal temperature is between 350°F and 375°F.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying the asparagus. This will cause the temperature of the oil to drop and the asparagus will not cook evenly.
  • Once the asparagus is fried, drain it on paper towels to remove any excess oil.
  • Serve the asparagus immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Deep-fried asparagus is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or side dish. With its crispy batter and tender-crisp asparagus, it is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering. So next time you are looking for a quick and tasty snack, give deep-fried asparagus a try. You won't be disappointed!
