¾ cup ketchup

Steps:

  • Heat skillet over medium-high heat; cook and stir beef, onion, green bell pepper, carrots, and garlic until beef is browned, about 10 minutes. Drain off liquids.

BBQ season or a quick dinner, these family-favorite homemade low sodium sloppy joes can be ready in 30 minutes!

1 tsp olive oil
1 lb. ground beef
1/3 green bell pepper (finely minced)
1/2 large yellow or red onion (finely minced / I like to use red onion)
1 1/2 tsp garlic pre-minced
1 6 oz. can tomato paste no salt added
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp allspice
1 tsp smoke paprika
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp Lea and Perrins low sodium Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp yellow ground mustard
3/4 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 cup water (reserve 1/2 cup)

Steps:

  • Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add beef and brown, breaking apart into small crumbles as it cooks, about 10 minutes. Drain any grease.
  • Add diced onion and bell pepper to same skillet and cook 2-3 minutes, until soft. Add pre-minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds or so. Add beef back to the skillet and mix well.
  • While the beef is cooking add the remaining ingredients to a small mixing bowl using ½ the water or ½ cup. Whisk together until smooth. Add to the beef and vegetable mix in the skillet.
  • Cook over medium low heat for 10-15 minutes, until mixture has thickened to your desire. Use any remaining water as need to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and serve over low sodium toasted buns or choice of accompaniment.

2 lb extra lean hamburger meat (96/4)
1 medium yellow onion or 3 tbsps of dried onions
3 Tbsp minced garlic
2 Tbsp lite brown sugar
3 Tbsp mustard
1 tsp worchestershire sauce
1 can(s) 14.5 oz hunts no salt added diced tomatoes
2 can(s) 14.5 oz hunts no salt added tomatoe sauce
1 medium green bell pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Place Hamburger meat in a large Skillet with Garlic and Onions and cook over medium heat until browned.
  • 2. Drain and grease from meat and discard
  • 3. Add Diced Bell Pepper and simmer for 2 minutes stirring occasionally
  • 4. Add Lite Brown Sugar, Worchestershire Sauce, Mustard, and stir in until mixed completely throughout
  • 5. Drain juice from diced tomatoes and add to meat mixture stirring in completely
  • 6. Add both cans of tomatoe sauce and stir completely until coated
  • 7. Simmer for 20 minutes stirring ocasionally
  • 8. Serve on a plain Hamburger Bun or for extra taste serve on a toasted hamburger bun

1 lb lean ground turkey
2/3 cup onion
1/2 cup green pepper
2 jalapeno peppers
1 cup no-salt-added ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon mustard powder
1/4 teaspoon salt substitute
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Remove seeds from jalapeno peppers and dice.
  • Dice onion and green pepper.
  • Sauté onion, jalapenos and green pepper in EVO then set aside.
