My dad was not a happy camper if he didn't see this dish on the table. It was his favorite! I made it for my own family while our kids were growing up, and now my daughter makes this dish for her family. -Nancy Heishman, Las Vegas, Nevada

Tips:

  • Use fresh or frozen peas. Fresh peas are best, but frozen peas are a good option when fresh peas are not available. If using frozen peas, thaw them before cooking.
  • Use small pearl onions. Small pearl onions are best for this recipe because they cook quickly and evenly. If you can't find small pearl onions, you can use regular onions, but you will need to cut them into small pieces.
  • Cook the onions until they are soft and translucent. This will help to bring out their sweetness and flavor.
  • Use a good quality chicken broth. The chicken broth is the base of the sauce, so it's important to use a good quality broth. You can use homemade chicken broth or a store-bought broth.
  • Season the sauce to taste. Add salt and pepper to taste, and you can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or dried thyme.
  • Serve the creamed peas and pearl onions immediately. This dish is best served hot, so it's important to serve it immediately after it's cooked.

Conclusion:

Creamed peas and pearl onions is a classic side dish that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. This recipe is a great way to use up fresh or frozen peas, and it's also a good way to get your kids to eat their vegetables. The creamy sauce is rich and flavorful, and the peas and onions are cooked to perfection. This dish is sure to be a hit at your next potluck or family dinner.
