Dad's Homemade Baked Beans image

This is my dads recipe for Boston Baked Beans. They are sweet and a little tangy what beans should taste like to me. The end result can be a little juicy, if you like your beans thicker, by all means just cook them to the consistency that you prefer. Also, the mustard and ketchup are not set in stone, they are simply one part mustard to three parts ketchup.

Tips:

  • Soak the beans overnight: This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more tender.
  • Use a variety of beans: Don't be afraid to mix different types of beans together, such as pinto beans, kidney beans, and black beans. This will add flavor and texture to your dish.
  • Don't overcook the beans: Beans are best when they are cooked until they are just tender, but not mushy. Overcooked beans will lose their flavor and texture.
  • Use a variety of seasonings: Don't just stick to salt and pepper. Experiment with different herbs and spices, such as chili powder, cumin, and oregano. You can also add a bit of sweetness with brown sugar or maple syrup.
  • Cook the beans in a slow cooker: This is a great way to make baked beans if you don't have a lot of time. Just throw all of the ingredients in the slow cooker and let it cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  • Serve the beans with your favorite sides: Baked beans are a great side dish for grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or cornbread.

Baked beans are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover beans.

With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find a baked bean recipe that you'll love.
