Tilapia is a mild-flavored fish that is perfect for pan-frying. When coated in a flavorful curry powder mixture and pan-fried until golden brown, tilapia becomes a delicious and healthy meal. This article provides two recipes for curried pan-fried tilapia: one for a traditional Indian-style curry and one for a Thai-inspired curry. Both recipes are easy to follow and can be made in under 30 minutes. The traditional Indian-style curry uses a blend of spices, including cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala, to create a rich and flavorful sauce. The Thai-inspired curry uses a combination of lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves to create a fragrant and tangy sauce. Both curries are served with a side of rice or naan bread.

Time 12m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons seafood seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
4 -5 tilapia fillets (fresh or frozen thawed)
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons freshly chopped fresh parsley leaves

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 300 degrees F.
  • In a shallow baking dish combine flour, seafood seasoning, salt and pepper. Add the tilapia and lightly coat each side.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Shake off any excess seasoned flour and place in the skillet. Brown on both sides, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Place tilapia on a baking sheet that is lined with a paper grocery bag or paper towels and keep warm in the oven while you prepare the sauce.
  • Turn down the heat to the pan the tilapia was cooked to low and add the butter. Once the butter is melted, add the garlic, lemon juice and parsley and saute for 2 minutes. Place the fillets on serving plates or a platter, top with the sauce and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tilapia fillets. Look for fillets that are firm and have a light pink color. Avoid fillets that are thin or have a slimy texture.
  • Season the tilapia fillets well. This will help to enhance the flavor of the fish. You can use a variety of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Pan-fry the tilapia fillets over medium heat. This will help to prevent the fish from sticking to the pan and will also help to create a crispy crust.
  • Cook the tilapia fillets until they are opaque and flaky. This will ensure that the fish is cooked through. You can check the doneness of the fish by inserting a fork into the thickest part of the fillet. If the fork comes out easily, the fish is cooked.

Conclusion:

Pan-fried tilapia is a quick and easy weeknight meal that is also very flavorful. The curry powder and other spices add a lot of flavor to the fish, and the crispy crust is a nice contrast to the tender, flaky fish. This dish can be served with a variety of sides, such as rice, vegetables, or salad.
