CURRIED ALMONDS
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Whisk egg white with spices. Add almonds and stir to coat. Put butter on a large cookie sheet and melt in the oven.
- Spread coated almonds on cookie sheet and return to oven for 20 minutes or until lightly toasted, turning almonds now and then to prevent sticking and to even out toasting. Allow to cool thoroughly before storing.
Tips:
- Use high-quality almonds: Opt for whole, raw almonds that are free from blemishes and have a consistent color. Fresh almonds will yield the best flavor and texture in your curried dish.
- Roast the almonds before cooking: Roasting the almonds prior to adding them to the curry enhances their flavor and gives them a slightly crunchy texture. Spread the almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast in a preheated oven until fragrant and golden brown.
- Make a flavorful curry paste: The curry paste is the heart of this dish, so take the time to blend together a flavorful combination of spices. Use a variety of chili peppers to achieve your desired level of heat, and balance it out with aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric.
- Use coconut milk for a creamy texture: Coconut milk adds a rich, creamy texture to the curry and helps to balance out the heat of the spices. Choose unsweetened coconut milk for a healthier option, or use full-fat coconut milk for a more decadent flavor.
- Simmer the curry until the almonds are tender: Allow the curry to simmer gently until the almonds are tender and have absorbed the flavorful curry sauce. This process usually takes about 20-30 minutes, but may vary depending on the type of almonds used.
- Garnish with fresh herbs and spices: Before serving, garnish the curry with fresh herbs like cilantro or basil, and a sprinkling of spices like garam masala or red chili powder. This adds a pop of color and enhances the overall flavor of the dish.
Conclusion:
Curried almonds are a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed as a main course or as a side dish. With its vibrant flavors and textures, this dish is sure to impress your taste buds and leave you craving more. Whether you prefer a mild or spicy curry, there are endless variations to explore.
