Yield 6-8 serving(s)
Number Of Ingredients 5
Steps:
- In a large bowl mix first 3 ingredients.
- Peel and slice cucumbers and onion and add to vinegar/water/sugar mix.
- Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
- If all the cucumbers and onions are eaten reserve the vinegar/water/sugar mix and add fresh cucumbers and onion.
- My servings are an estimate, as I can eat the whole bowl myself :) The cooking time is actually the refrigeration time.
Tips:
- Choose fresh, firm cucumbers for pickling. Cucumbers that are too ripe or have soft spots will not pickle well.
- Use a variety of vinegars for pickling, such as white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or rice vinegar. Different vinegars will give your pickles different flavors.
- Add pickling salt to the vinegar solution. Pickling salt helps to preserve the cucumbers and prevents them from becoming soft.
- Use a variety of spices and herbs to flavor your pickles. Common spices and herbs used for pickling include garlic, dill, mustard seeds, and peppercorns.
- Pack the cucumbers tightly into a jar or container. This will help to prevent them from floating and ensure that they are evenly pickled.
- Store the pickles in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks before eating. This will allow the flavors to develop and mellow.
Conclusion:
Pickled cucumbers are a delicious and versatile snack or side dish. They can be enjoyed on their own, added to salads or sandwiches, or used as a garnish. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make your own pickled cucumbers at home. So next time you're looking for a healthy and flavorful snack, give pickled cucumbers a try!
