WHOLE FOODS CABBAGE CRUNCH

Whole Foods Cabbage Crunch image

I was thrilled to find one of my favorite recipes from Whole Foods in the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel online. I think its awfully close to the original which I love. It is such a healthy, refreshing salad, and a light alternative to coleslaw. Make sure to use fresh, crisp cabbage and don't toss with the dressing until right before serving. (Got any suggestions to make it just like my Whole Foods favorite?)

Tips for a Perfect Crusty Crunchy Cheddar Cabbage Casserole:

  • Use fresh cabbage: Fresh cabbage has a better flavor and texture than pre-packaged or frozen cabbage.
  • Shred the cabbage finely: This will help it cook evenly and absorb the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Use a good quality cheddar cheese: A sharp cheddar cheese will give the casserole a bolder flavor.
  • Don't overcook the cabbage: Overcooked cabbage will be mushy and lose its flavor.
  • Add some bread crumbs or crushed crackers to the top of the casserole before baking: This will help create a crispy, crunchy crust.
  • Serve the casserole hot: This is when it will be at its best.
