CRUNCHY DELICIOUS WAFFLES

Crunchy Delicious Waffles image

For a long time I tried to find a recipe for waffles that would make them crunchy on the outside, not limp and soggy. These are great, I got the recipe from "The Joy of Cooking"

Categories     Breakfast

Time 20m

Yield 6-8 waffles, 3-5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 3/4 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs, well beaten
4 -16 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups milk

Steps:

  • In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • In another bowl whisk together eggs, butter (the more butter you use the crunchier they'll be, I find that 8 tbsp is perfect), and milk.
  • Warm melted butter may separate into flaky clumps when mixed with milk. I just stick it in the microwave for 1 minute then stir and the lumps will go away.
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the egg/milk mixture.
  • Gently whisk together just until combined.
  • Baking time and amount of batter will depend on your individual waffle maker. I use about a cup of batter for 2 waffles and mine take about 3 1/2 minutes to bake. I like to bake mine until they are a dark golden brown. Cooking spray usually isn't needed if you use 8 tbsp or more butter in the batter.

CRUNCHY DELICIOUS WAFFLES RECIPE - (4.6/5)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 3/4 cups plain flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs, well beaten
4-16 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 cups milk

Steps:

  • In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, butter (the more you use the crunchier they will be), and milk. Warm melted butter may separate into flaky clumps when mixed with milk. Stick the bowl into the microwave for a minute then stir. The lumps should go away. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the liquid mixture. Gently whisk together just until combined. Baking time and amount of batter will depend on your individual waffle maker. I use about 2/3 cup and they cook in about 3-4 minutes. No need for cooking spray or oil because of the butter in the mix.

Tips:

  • Use the right waffle iron. A Belgian waffle maker will give you thicker, fluffier waffles, while a classic waffle maker will produce thinner, crispier waffles.
  • Preheat your waffle iron. This will help to ensure that your waffles cook evenly.
  • Use the right amount of batter. Too much batter will make your waffles dense and heavy, while too little batter will make them thin and crispy.
  • Don't overcook your waffles. Overcooked waffles will be dry and tough.
  • Let your waffles cool slightly before serving. This will help them to set and make them easier to handle.

Conclusion:

Waffles are a delicious and versatile breakfast food that can be enjoyed with a variety of toppings. With the right recipe and a little practice, you can make perfect waffles at home. So what are you waiting for? Give one of these recipes a try today!
