Categories     Pies

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 c all purpose flour
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c butter, softened
5 apples, sliced
sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Place apple slices in the bottom of a greased square pan. Sprinkle apple with sugar.
  • 2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar and salt. Mix in butter with fingers or pastry blender.
  • 3. Cover apple with this mixture and bake in a 350F oven for about 30 minutes until crumbly mixture is golden in color.
  • 4. There are no spices such as nutmeg or cinnamon in this dessert. Many Quebecers prefer their apple desserts without spices. A good pinch of cinnamon can be added to the flour if you prefer spicy apple desserts.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your apple crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Add some spices to the apples. This will enhance their flavor. Some good choices include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Use a combination of oats and flour for the topping. This will give your apple crisp a crispy and crumbly texture.
  • Add some butter or oil to the topping. This will help it brown and crisp up.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. This usually takes about 30 minutes.
  • Serve the apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
