CROCKPOT SHELL CASSEROLE

Crockpot Shell Casserole image

When I first got my crockpot years ago, I bought a Mable Hoffman crockpot cookbook. We love this recipe because it tastes like pasta stroganoff, and it only takes 2-3 hours to cook, so you can start it later in the day. I'm sure you could leave the wine out, but I love the flavor that wine gives a dish

Time 3h20m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb lean ground beef
1 small onion chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/4 c all purpose flour
1 1/4 c hot water
2 tsp beef bouillon granules
2 Tbsp red wine
6 oz large shell shaped pasta
1 2 ounce can of sliced mushrooms drained
1 c sour cream

Steps:

  • 1. In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion until red color disappears
  • 2. stir in salt, garlic powder, worcestershire sauce and flour
  • 3. add water, bouillon and wine--mix well
  • 4. cover and cook on low 2-3 hours
  • 5. meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions and drain
  • 6. add cooked pasta, mushrooms and sour crean to the slow cooker--stir to mix ingredients
  • 7. turn control to high.
  • 8. cover and cook on high for 10-15 minutes

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the casserole will taste. Use fresh vegetables, lean ground beef, and flavorful cheese.
  • Brown the ground beef before adding it to the slow cooker: This will help to develop the flavor and prevent the beef from becoming dry. Use a large skillet over medium-high heat, and brown the beef until it is no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This will add flavor, color, and texture to the casserole. Some good options include onions, celery, carrots, peas, and corn. You can also use frozen vegetables, if you prefer.
  • Season the casserole well: Use a variety of spices and herbs to flavor the casserole. Some good options include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning.
  • Cook the casserole on low for 6-8 hours: This will allow the flavors to meld and the casserole to become tender. You can also cook the casserole on high for 3-4 hours, but be sure to keep an eye on it so that it doesn't overcook.
  • Serve the casserole with your favorite toppings: Some good options include sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped green onions, or salsa.
