Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 5h5m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

8 frozen chicken thighs
1/2 cup honey
1 cup orange juice
2 cups chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon fresh gingerroot, minced
1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 (10 ounce) package broccoli, thawed (optional)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water
cooked rice

Steps:

  • Place frozen thighs in the crock pot.
  • Whisk remaining ingredients except broccoli, cornstarch, water and rice together and pour over chicken.
  • Cook on low 4 to 5 hours.
  • If using broccoli, add to crock pot 1 hour before chicken is done.
  • Before serving, remove chicken and broccoli to serving dish and keep warm.
  • Turn crock pot on high.
  • Stir cornstarch into water and add to crock pot.
  • Stir occasionally until it thickens and bubbles.
  • Serve over the cooked rice.

Tips:

  • Use fresh oranges: Fresh oranges provide the best flavor for this recipe. If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use frozen or canned orange juice concentrate, but the flavor will be less intense.
  • Don't overcrowd the slow cooker: If you have a small slow cooker, you may need to cook the chicken in batches. Overcrowding the slow cooker will prevent the chicken from cooking evenly.
  • Cook the chicken on low heat: Cooking the chicken on low heat will help to keep it moist and tender. If you cook the chicken on high heat, it may become dry and tough.
  • Add the cornstarch slurry at the end of cooking: The cornstarch slurry will help to thicken the sauce. Add it to the slow cooker during the last 15 minutes of cooking, and stir until the sauce has thickened.
  • Serve the chicken with rice or noodles: Crockpot orange honey chicken is a great dish to serve with rice or noodles. The sauce is flavorful and goes well with both.

Conclusion:

Crockpot orange honey chicken is an easy and delicious meal that is perfect for a busy weeknight. The chicken is cooked in a slow cooker with a flavorful sauce made from orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and garlic. The chicken is tender and juicy, and the sauce is sweet and tangy. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
