These are very good, and very easy; the meatballs are made in cooked in a slow cooker. I sometimes like to add a can of chunk pineapple when I make them, and then I substitute pineapple juice for the water.

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 8h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 (27 ounce) cans bavarian sauerkraut, drained
2 lbs polish kielbasa, precooked and cut into 3 " pieces
1 medium onion, thinly sliced, separated into rings
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1 cup water

Steps:

  • In bottom of a crock pot/slow cooker, layer 1 can sauerkraut, 1 pound sausage pieces, half the onion slices, 1/2 teaspoon boulllon and 1/4 teaspoon celery seed.
  • Repeat layers.
  • Add water.
  • Cover and cook on LOW heat setting for 7 to 9 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Serve with boiled potatoes and apple raisin salad.

Tips:

  • Prep everything in advance. This will make the cooking process much smoother. Cut up the meat, vegetables, and any other ingredients. Reading through the entire recipe a couple of times will help you plan accordingly.
  • Choose the right cut of meat. A leaner cut of meat, such as pork tenderloin or chicken breast, will cook more quickly and evenly in a Crock-Pot. Avoid fatty cuts of meat, as these can make the dish greasy.
  • Don't overcrowd the Crock-Pot. If you put too much food in the Crock-Pot, it will not cook evenly. Leave some space between the pieces of meat and vegetables so that they can cook properly.
  • Add liquid to the Crock-Pot. This will help to prevent the food from drying out. You can use water, broth, or even wine. The liquid should come about halfway up the sides of the food.
  • Cook the food on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours. The cooking time will vary depending on the type of meat and vegetables you are using. Check the food periodically to make sure that it is cooked through.
  • Thicken the sauce, if desired. If you want a thicker sauce, you can add a cornstarch slurry to the Crock-Pot. Combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water in a small bowl. Stir until smooth and then add to the Crock-Pot. Cook on high for 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  • Serve immediately. Crock-Pot meals are best served immediately. If you need to store the leftovers, let them cool completely and then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Crock-Pot meals are a great way to save time and energy in the kitchen. They are also a great way to cook healthy and delicious meals. With a little planning, you can create a wide variety of Crock-Pot meals that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for an easy and delicious meal, reach for your Crock-Pot.
