HAM, GREEN BEANS, & POTATOES IN THE CROCK POT

Ham, Green Beans, & Potatoes in the Crock Pot image

Here's the simple crock pot combination I've come up with based on friends' advice and some other recipes I've read. I like to serve it with corn bread and sliced fresh tomatoes. NOTE: In the time since I originally posted this recipe, I've tweaked it a bit more when I make it at home. I found that the addition of some chicken broth really enhances the flavor! However, I'm leaving it here as originally posted.

Provided by KitchenGnome

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 lbs of fresh green beans
2 lbs of ham
4 baking potatoes
1 Large onion

Steps:

  • Dice the ham, green beans, onion if you are using it, and potatoes. Plunk it all into your crockpot, add 3 cups of water and season with salt & pepper. Cook for 6 hrs on Low.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham. A bone-in ham will add more flavor to the dish, but it will also take longer to cook. If you're short on time, you can use a boneless ham.
  • Soak the ham before cooking. This will help to remove excess salt and make the ham more tender. Soak the ham in a large pot of cold water for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  • Use a slow cooker liner. This will make cleanup a breeze. Simply remove the liner from the slow cooker after cooking and discard it.
  • Add vegetables to the slow cooker. This is a great way to get a healthy meal on the table. Add your favorite vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots, onions, and celery, to the slow cooker along with the ham.
  • Season the ham to your liking. You can use a variety of spices to season the ham, such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper. You can also add a tablespoon of brown sugar or maple syrup to the slow cooker for a sweeter flavor.
  • Cook the ham on low for 8-10 hours. This will give the ham plenty of time to cook through and become tender.

Conclusion:

This crock pot ham with green beans and potatoes is a delicious and easy meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. The ham is tender and flavorful, and the vegetables are cooked to perfection. This dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
