Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 tablespoons smoked paprika or paprika
3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
6 pounds St. Louis-style pork spareribs or Baby Back ribs (see note)
1 24 ounce jar Barbecue Sauce (Blue's Hog original is superb)
¼ cup cider vinegar (if the barbecue sauce is on the sweet side)

Steps:

  • Set the slow cooker to LOW and spray with nonstick cooking spray. (I always spray the underside of the lid to help with cleanup.)
  • Remove the silver membrane from the back of the ribs. Here's a video with instructions. (You might have bought ribs with the membrane removed, and if so, skip this step.)
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes. Rub the dry-rub mix evenly over the ribs.
  • Brush both sides of the rib with barbecue sauce and set the ribs in the slow cooker standing upright with the meaty side against the inside wall, of the slow cooker.
  • Pour the remaining barbecue sauce over the ribs. If using a sweet sauce, pour the cider vinegar over the ribs.
  • Cover and cook on LOW 5-6 hours or until the meat is fork-tender.
  • Serve with additional store-bought barbecue sauce or strain the juices, from the pan, through a fine-mesh strainer into a medium saucepan.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer 15-20 minutes or until the mixture has reduced to 2 cups.
  • To serve, slice the meat between the bones and serve with barbecue sauce.
  • Enjoy!

SLOW COOKER BABY BACK RIBS

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs image

These are the best I've had, short of the actual grilling method of course! This is a very simple recipe that I came up with a few years ago. It's not rocket science, just ribs cooked in the slow cooker and finished in the oven. This is what I do when I want ribs during the week and have to work all day. I'm eating them within a half-hour of getting home, and they turn out perfect every time!

SLOW-COOKER BARBECUE RIBS

Yes, you can cook ribs in a slow cooker! In this easy recipe, the seasoning paste transforms into a savory dipping sauce. Slather it on the ribs and pop them on the grill just before serving for a final char.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 4h40m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

One 6-ounce can tomato paste
1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground mustard seeds
2 teaspoons granulated garlic
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 racks baby back ribs (about 3 pounds)
Oil, for grilling

Steps:

  • Whisk the tomato paste, brown sugar, vinegar, chili powder, mustard, garlic, paprika, Worcestershire, 1 1/2 tablespoons salt and 1 teaspoon pepper in the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker until smooth. Cut each rack of ribs in half and add to the slow cooker. Use your hands to rub the sauce on to the ribs. Cover with a lid and cook on low heat until tender, about 4 hours.
  • Gently transfer the ribs to a baking sheet and cool for at least 20 minutes; this will help maintain the shape of the ribs as they grill. Whisk the sauce at the bottom of the slow cooker until smooth. Reserve 1/4 cup of the sauce to brush on to the ribs and save any remaining sauce to serve on the side (it will thicken as it cools).
  • Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates. Grill the ribs, top-side down, until lightly charred in parts, 3 to 5 minutes. Flip, brush the top side of the ribs with the reserved barbecue sauce and grill until the underside of the ribs are lightly charred in parts, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove to a platter and serve immediately with the extra barbecue sauce on the side.

CROCK POT BBQ PORK BACK RIBS

Crock Pot BBQ Pork Back Ribs image

I am not the greatest at cooking ribs on the grill unless I par boil them first. This recipe is always a hit and turns our wonderful, tender and delicious every time I make it.

Provided by Janet Crow

Categories     Ribs

Time 18h

Number Of Ingredients 8

2.5-3 lb pork back ribs
your favorite bbq sauce
3 Tbsp all purpose seasoning (recipe below)
2 Tbsp smoke paprika
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp adobo
1 tsp black pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all the ingredients for the all purpose seasoning, store in an airtight container and use as needed.
  • 2. Cut the ribs in half and rub them all over with the all purpose seasoning. Place them in a ziploc bag and put in the fridge overnight. When ready to cook, place the ribs on their sides in the crock pot with the meaty side facing the outer part of the crock pot (I used a 4 quart crock pot for mine). Pour in any juice left in the ziploc bag. Pour 3/4 C. of BBQ sauce over the top of the ribs. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, spooning the sauce over the ribs every so often as they cook.
  • 3. When you are ready to serve them, cover a baking sheet with tinfoil, turn the broiler on high and carefully remove the ribs to the baking sheet. Brush with a little more BBQ sauce and pop under the broiler to 2-3 minutes to add more color to the ribs. This is really optional, I do not always do it unless we have company coming for supper.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Select fresh, meaty pork back ribs with good marbling. Avoid ribs that are too thin or have excessive fat.
  • Prepare the ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs to ensure tender and juicy meat. Cut the ribs into individual portions if desired.
  • Make a flavorful rub: Combine spices, herbs, and seasonings to create a rub that will enhance the taste of the ribs. Common ingredients include brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, cumin, and chili powder.
  • Slow cook the ribs: Place the ribs in a slow cooker and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours, or until the meat is tender and fall-off-the-bone. Adding liquid such as water, broth, or beer to the slow cooker helps keep the ribs moist.
  • Baste the ribs: Baste the ribs with barbecue sauce during the last hour of cooking to add flavor and glaze the meat.
  • Let the ribs rest: Allow the ribs to rest for a few minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute and enhance the flavor.

Conclusion:

Crock-Pot BBQ pork back ribs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that can be enjoyed by the whole family. With just a few simple ingredients and a slow cooker, you can create tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs that are bursting with flavor. Whether you prefer a classic BBQ sauce or something more adventurous, there are countless variations to suit your taste buds. So fire up your slow cooker and get ready to indulge in this mouthwatering dish.
