SLOW COOKER BABY BACK RIBS

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs image

These are the best I've had, short of the actual grilling method of course! This is a very simple recipe that I came up with a few years ago. It's not rocket science, just ribs cooked in the slow cooker and finished in the oven. This is what I do when I want ribs during the week and have to work all day. I'm eating them within a half-hour of getting home, and they turn out perfect every time!

CROCK POT BARBECUE PORK RIBS

Categories     Pork

Time 4h15m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 lbs pork ribs (the nice big meaty ones)
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons season salt
1/2 cup oil
1 cup barbecue sauce (I like KC Masterpiece Original)
1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
1 chopped onion

Steps:

  • Mix half of the spices with the flour rub on pork ribs until coated. Heat oil in frying pan on med-high and brown all sides of ribs.
  • Place the browned ribs in a crock pot.
  • Mix in bowl barbecue sauce, salad dressing, remaining spices & chopped onion.
  • Pour over ribs, cook on high at least 3-4 hours on high turning 2-3 times during cooking. Meat will fall apart.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Baby back ribs are the most popular choice for barbecue ribs, but you can also use spare ribs or St. Louis-style ribs. Select ribs that are meaty and have a good amount of marbling.
  • Prepare the ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. This will help the ribs cook evenly and will also make them more tender.
  • Make a flavorful rub: A good rub will help to enhance the flavor of the ribs. You can use a store-bought rub or make your own. Some popular ingredients for barbecue rubs include brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cumin.
  • Cook the ribs low and slow: The best way to cook ribs is to cook them low and slow. This will help to tenderize the ribs and will also allow the flavors of the rub to penetrate the meat.
  • Baste the ribs: During the cooking process, baste the ribs with a mixture of barbecue sauce and apple cider vinegar. This will help to keep the ribs moist and will also add flavor.
  • Let the ribs rest: Once the ribs are cooked, let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Pork ribs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned cook, there is a crock pot barbecue pork ribs recipe that is perfect for you. With a little planning and effort, you can easily create a delicious and memorable meal that will have your family and friends coming back for more.
