Steps:
- Rub the pork all over with the five-spice powder and salt. Add the chicken broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper to the slow cooker. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Add the scallions, garlic, ginger, the mushrooms, if using, and the meat, turning it a few times to coat. Cover the cooker, set it on HIGH, and cook for 4 hours. Set the cooker on LOW and cook until the meat is very tender, at least another 2 hours (6 hours total).
- Transfer the pork to a platter, cover lightly, and let rest 15 minutes. Meanwhile, pour the cooking liquid into a measuring cup and skim off and discard the vegetables and fat that rise to the surface. Slice the meat and serve warm or at room temperature with noodles and the sauce on the side.
Tips:
- Use a pork roast that is at least 3 pounds. This will ensure that the meat is cooked evenly and remains moist.
- Sear the pork roast before slow cooking. This will help to develop flavor and create a nice crust.
- Use a variety of seasonings to flavor the pork roast. This recipe uses garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and honey, but you can also use other spices and herbs that you like.
- Cook the pork roast on low for 8-10 hours. This will allow the meat to become tender and fall apart easily.
- Serve the pork roast with rice, noodles, or vegetables. You can also use the leftovers to make sandwiches or tacos.
Conclusion:
This Crock-Pot Asian Pork Roast is an easy and delicious meal that is perfect for a busy weeknight. The pork is tender and flavorful, and the sauce is rich and savory. Serve it with your favorite sides, and you'll have a meal that the whole family will love.
