1 lb spicy
2 c shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (8 ounce)
1 package (8 ounce) cream cheese

Steps:

  • First, preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • If you are using crescent rolls: unroll 1 can of crescent roll dough. Place the two unrolled rectangles of dough in an ungreased 13x9-inch glass baking dish. Press the dough into the bottom of the pan. Curve the extra dough up the sides to form a crust.
  • If you are using dough sheets: Unroll 1 can of crescent sheet dough. Place the rectangle of dough in an ungreased 13x9-inch glass baking dish. Press the dough into the bottom of the pan. Curve the extra dough up the sides to form a crust.

Time 35m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

One 8-ounce crescent dough sheet, such as Pillsbury
1/2 cup shredded "supermarket" mozzarella
4 tablespoons salted butter, melted
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
1 tablespoon pesto (store-bought or homemade)
2 garlic cloves, pressed

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Unroll the crescent sheet on a clean cutting board.
  • Mix together the mozzarella, butter, Parmesan, pesto and garlic in small bowl or pitcher until mixed well. Reserve two tablespoons of the mixture and set aside. Spoon the remaining garlic-butter mixture over the crescent dough sheet, spreading to the edges. Starting with one of the long sides, roll the dough tightly, as if you were rolling cinnamon roll dough. Pinch closed and place seam-side down.
  • Slice the dough into 12 even pieces and transfer them to the lined sheet pan, spacing them evenly. Spoon 1 teaspoon of the remaining garlic butter on top of each roll. Bake until golden, about 12 minutes.
  • Let cool for 2 to 3 minutes, then serve.

CRESCENT ROLL DOUGH (BREAD MACHINE)

Crescent Roll Dough (Bread Machine) image

We live where cans of crescent roll dough are not available. I searched the 'net for something I could use as a substitute. While I don't claim these are EXACTLY like the canned ones, they're close enough for us. This came from Allrecipes.com (called Blue Ribbon Overnight Rolls). I've always made the dough using a bread machine, so I can't give any feedback making it without the machine. The dough is very easy to work with. EDIT: I just realized this is very similiar to "Recipe #136121", but these ingredients are slightly different and provide bread machine instructions.

Time 4h12m

Yield 16-24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup warm milk
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
4 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 ounce active dry yeast or 2 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast

Steps:

  • In bread machine:.
  • Place ingredients in bread machine in above order and choose the dough cycle.
  • Divide the dough in half.
  • Roll each half into a 9" round circle.
  • Spread some softened butter onto each circle (if desired) and cut each circle into 8 or 12 pie-shaped wedges, depending on the size of roll you want.
  • Starting with the wide end, roll up each wedge.
  • Place on greased baking pan, cover with a cloth and let stand for about 2 hours until roll has doubled in size.
  • Bake at 375 for 12 minutes.
  • Without bread machine:.
  • In a large bowl, mix together yeast, milk and sugar. Let stand for 30 minutes.
  • Mix eggs, butter and salt into yeast mixture.
  • Mix in flour, 2 cups at a time.
  • Cover with wax paper and let dough stand at room temperature overnight.
  • In the morning, divide the dough in half.
  • Roll each half into a 9" round circle.
  • Spread cutter on circle and cut each round into 8 or 12 pie-shaped wedges.
  • Roll up each wedge starting from wide end.
  • Place on greased cookie sheets and let stand until ready to bake. Bake at 375 for 12 minutes.
  • To freeze:.
  • Roll up each wedge, place on a greased baking pan (cookie sheet) or on greased wax paper.
  • Place pan in freezer for about an hour. When dough is frozen, put into freezer safe Ziplock bags.
  • To bake, remove rolls from bag, place them on a greased baking pan to defrost and to give time to rise (about 2 hours). After dough has doubled, bake at 375 for 12 minutes.
  • Preparation time does not allow the 1 1/2 hours dough cycle or 2 hours needed to rise.

Tips:

  • Use fresh crescent dough: Fresh dough will produce the best results. If you're using frozen dough, be sure to thaw it completely before using.
  • Don't overwork the dough: Overworking the dough will make it tough. Be gentle when rolling and shaping the dough.
  • Use plenty of butter: Butter is what gives garlic bread its rich, flavorful taste. Don't be afraid to use a generous amount.
  • Use fresh garlic: Fresh garlic has a much stronger flavor than jarred garlic. If you can, use fresh garlic cloves for the best flavor.
  • Bake the bread until it's golden brown: The bread should be golden brown on top and cooked through in the center. If the bread is not cooked through, it will be doughy and unpleasant to eat.

Conclusion:

Garlic bread is a delicious and versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of meals. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like it simple or loaded with toppings, garlic bread is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish, give garlic bread a try!
