Categories     Shellfish

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 stick butter
1 small onion chopped
1/2 green bell pepper chopped
1/2 stalk celery chopped
4 large garlic cloves, minced
1lb lump crab meat, free of shells (duh)
2 (8 oz) packages cream cheese
1 cup mayo
1/2 cup grated Parmesan
6 tablespoons minced green onion
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
5 teaspoons regular Tabasco hot sauce
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon Paul Prudhomme's Blackened Redfish Magic seasoning
Salt & Pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Heat the butter over medium heat in a saucepan until it bubbles. Cook the Trinity (onions, bell peppers, celery) and garlic until all the vegetables are soft and just beginning to brown. 2. While above is going on, mix # 8-16 in a bowl. 3. Add the cooked veggies and crab meat to this 4. In microwave safe dish heat cream cheese on medium heat for 2 minutes or until soft, and then stir up until its creamy and flows some. If you don't do this its very difficult to get it to mix into the rest of the ingredients. 5. Mix everything up and put into casserole dish. 6. Place in preheated 325 degree oven for 35-40 minutes until top is golden brown. 7. Serve hot with pita chips, toasted bread, or just eat it with a spoon.

Tips:

  • Use fresh crab meat. Fresh crab meat has a sweeter, more delicate flavor than canned crab meat. If you can't find fresh crab meat, use frozen crab meat that has been thawed in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Don't overcook the crab meat. Crab meat cooks quickly, so it's important to not overcook it. Overcooked crab meat is tough and chewy.
  • Use a good quality cream cheese. A good quality cream cheese will make your dip smooth and creamy. Avoid using low-fat or fat-free cream cheese, as it will make your dip grainy.
  • Add some flavor enhancers. To add some extra flavor to your dip, try adding some chopped green onions, red peppers, or jalapeños. You can also add some Cajun seasoning or Old Bay seasoning.
  • Serve with your favorite dippers. Creole crab dip can be served with a variety of dippers, such as crackers, chips, or vegetables.

Conclusion:

Creole crab dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. It's a great way to use up leftover crab meat, and it's always a hit with guests. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy appetizer, give Creole crab dip a try. You won't be disappointed!
