Creamy Baked Brie With Apples and Maple Syrup image

A nice appetizer during the fall. Very easy to prepare and can be served at a dinner party. I received this recipe from a friend years ago.

Time 8m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 ounces brie cheese (1 round of Brie with rind)
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup (approximately)
1 -2 apple, cored and cut into thick slices
4 -8 slices ham, sliced in half and then rolled (like a tube)
1 baguette, sliced (use a good crusty bakery baguette)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Place round of brie into glass or ceramic pie dish. Drizzle with maple syrup. (Note: If you do not care for the rind, you may slice off the top layer of rind before drizzling with maple syrup.).
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until cheese begins to melt.
  • Arrange apple slices and ham around brie and serve with baguette slices.
  • Optional: Warm apple wedges and rolls of ham in baking dish with brie during the last few minutes of baking. (I usually skip this step.).

CREAMY CREAM OF WHEAT CEREAL WITH MAPLE SYRUP AND BANANAS

Creamy Cream of Wheat Cereal With Maple Syrup and Bananas image

Kids of all ages enjoy this...my DH loves this in the cooler months, and I could eat the whole thing myself, it is that good! Make certain to use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to make this, as it will scorch easily, or it also can be made in the microwave, but you will have to keep taking it out to stir it. You can also use pancake syrup in place of the maple syrup (store-bought or homemade). If you are a Cream of Wheat fan, then this is a recipe you are certain to enjoy!

Time 9m

Yield 3-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 small banana
2 cups water
2 cups milk (the more fat in the milk, the creamier it will be)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup cream of wheat (also known as farina)
1/2 cup maple syrup (can use 1/3 cup)
1 banana, sliced (optional)
2 tablespoons sliced almonds, toasted (good to sprinkle on top) (optional)
cereal cream or milk

Steps:

  • Chop (don't mash) enough banana to equal 1 cup (I just use one small banana for this).
  • In a saucepan, combine 2 cups water with milk and salt; bring to a boil.
  • Gradually whisk in cream of wheat, and continue to whisk constantly until the mixture thickens (this will take about 4 minutes).
  • Stir in maple syrup and chopped banana into the cereal and mix to combine.
  • Divide into serving bowls and top with sliced banana and toasted almonds if desired.
  • Pour on cream or milk on top of the hot or warm cereal.

Time 5m

Yield 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/3 cup maple-flavored pancake syrup
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Combine sugar, evaporated milk, syrup and 1 t vanilla in small saucepan.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and stir in 2 T butter.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality maple syrup. The better the maple syrup, the better your creamy maple syrup will be. Look for a dark, amber-colored syrup that is grade A or B.
  • Don't overcook the syrup. Overcooking will cause the syrup to become thick and sticky. Cook it just until it reaches a simmer and then remove it from the heat.
  • Add the butter and vanilla extract off the heat. This will prevent the butter from curdling and the vanilla extract from losing its flavor.
  • Store the syrup in a glass jar in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Creamy maple syrup is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used on pancakes, waffles, French toast, oatmeal, yogurt, and ice cream. It is also a great addition to baked goods, such as cookies, cakes, and muffins. With its rich, sweet flavor and creamy texture, creamy maple syrup is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen.
