3 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c sugar
1/2 t salt
1 c cold butter, cut into pieces

2/3 c firmly packed dark brown sugar
2/3 c light corn syrup
1/2 stick (1/4 c) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1/2 t salt
1 t vanilla
1-1/4 c chopped cranberries
1 c chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • preheat oven to 350 degrees Mix flour, sugar and salt in large bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pat mixture firmly in bottom of a jelly roll pan 15:x1-"x1". Bake until dough is lightly browned, 15=20 minutes. Cool briefly on rack. Make the filling: In a bowl whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, syrup, butter, salt and vanilla until the mixture is smooth. Stir in the cranberries and walnuts. Pour the filling over warm crust. Bak iin oven until set about 25 minutes. Cool on wire rack; cut into bars

Tips:

  • Use fresh cranberries: Fresh cranberries have a tart and tangy flavor that is perfect for these bars. If you can't find fresh cranberries, you can use frozen cranberries, but be sure to thaw them and drain them before using.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the bars tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together.
  • Press the dough firmly into the pan: This will help to prevent the bars from crumbling.
  • Bake the bars until they are golden brown: This will ensure that the bars are cooked through.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them: This will help to prevent the bars from falling apart.
