CRANBERRY-ORANGE HOLIDAY PUNCH

Categories     beverage

Time 21h25m

Yield about 9 cups

Number Of Ingredients 12

12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
20 thyme sprigs
8 fresh bay leaves
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1 tablespoon whole cloves
10 thyme sprigs
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cups unsweetened cranberry juice
1 1/2 cups orange vodka
Half a 750-milliliter bottle prosecco
6 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries

Steps:

  • For the Bundt ice ring: Pour 1 inch of water into the bottom of a 12-cup Bundt pan. Add a quarter of the cranberries, 5 thyme sprigs and 2 bay leaves and evenly spread the ingredients around the Bundt pan--this will be the top of the ice cube. Place in the freezer to set for at least 4 hours.
  • For the next layer, add enough water to fill halfway up the Bundt pan, then add the same quantity of ingredients as the first layer. Place in freezer for at least 4 more hours. Continue to make 2 more layers and freeze in the same manner, freezing each layer at least 4 hours before adding on the next. The final layer should freeze 8 hours or up to overnight before being used.
  • Turn the Bundt pan onto a baking sheet and hold under running hot water until the Bundt ice ring releases onto the baking sheet, 5 to 10 seconds. Add to a punch bowl when ready to serve.
  • For the spiced-thyme simple syrup: Combine the sugar with 2 cups water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and add the allspice, cloves, thyme and cinnamon sticks. Let steep while it comes to room temperature, 1 hour. Strain and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • For the punch: Stir together the cranberry juice, vodka and 2 cups spiced-thyme simple syrup (save the remainder for another use). Pour over the Bundt ice ring in the punch bowl and top with prosecco and cranberries for garnish. Serve immediately.

SPARKLING CRANBERRY ORANGE PUNCH

Sparkling Cranberry Orange Punch image

This wonderful and refreshing punch was inspired by my love of cranberry salad. It is quick and easy to make and can be frozen till ready to use, just slightly thaw and pour in the soda. The beautiful red color makes it perfect for the holidays and is a festive addition to any buffet ! My Grandmother Elsea always made this punch...

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 bottle cranberry juice (2 quarts) (chilled)
1 can(s) pineapple juice , large (chilled)
1 can(s) frozen orange juice, slightly thawed
2 bottle 2 -liters each ginger ale, chilled
1 envelope of cherry cool-aid
3 c white sugar/ to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice and dry cool-aid mix. Add sugar to taste, mix well or till sugar melts. Chill until ready to serve, pour into punch bowl over ice ring and add one of the bottles of ginger ale.Refresh with chilled ginger ale as needed.
  • 2. This recipe, minus the soda, may be frozen until ready to serve. This punch is best when ice cold and slightly slushy.
  • 3. A simple but elegant ice ring can be made by adding a single layer of oranges in a bundt pan or angel food pan.* OR * You can continue adding to it : Pour about an inch of ice cold water over the oranges. Freeze till firm. Then add a layer of cranberries and mint leaves to form bunches, around the ring. Add about a 1/2 inch layer of ice cold water and freeze till firm, repeat two more layers. (use ice cold water so the finished ring is clear and not cloudy )
  • 4. TIP ****Use ice cold water so the finished ring is clear and not cloudy .******

Tips:

  • Use Fresh Cranberries: Fresh cranberries impart a vibrant tartness and color to the punch. If using frozen cranberries, thaw them completely before using.
  • Zest the Oranges: Zesting the oranges adds a burst of citrusy flavor to the punch. Use a microplane grater to finely grate the zest, avoiding the white pith.
  • Use High-Quality Orange Juice: Freshly squeezed orange juice provides the best flavor, but you can also use store-bought 100% orange juice. Avoid orange juice that contains added sugar.
  • Sweeten to Taste: The amount of sugar you add to the punch will depend on your personal preference. Start with a small amount and taste the punch before adding more.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Cranberry-orange punch is best served cold. Chill it for at least 2 hours before serving, or overnight for even better flavor.
  • Garnish with Fresh Cranberries and Orange Slices: Add a festive touch to your punch by garnishing it with fresh cranberries and orange slices.

Conclusion:

Cranberry-orange punch is a refreshing, festive, and easy-to-make beverage perfect for holiday gatherings or any special occasion. Its vibrant color, tangy flavor, and aromatic citrus notes make it a crowd-pleaser. Whether you prefer a non-alcoholic version or want to add a splash of your favorite liquor, this versatile punch can be customized to suit your taste. So gather your ingredients, follow the simple steps, and enjoy the delightful taste of cranberry-orange punch!
