CRANBERRY CREAM CHEESE DIP

I got this from a neighbor while living in Germany and modified it a little. She was an American too. This was always a hit at every get-together we had! Fresh cranberries with jalapenos, sugar, green onions, and cilantro makes for great salsa. Add the cream cheese and you have a great dip! Serve with Ritz® crackers or Wheat Thins®.

This is a fun dip that is both sweet and spicy. I got the recipe by varying other cranberry salsa and dip recipes I have found. I got the idea of the fusion of oil from a friend. There are many ideas for use and a great item to take along when you want to surprise your friends with something they probably have not tried. Serve with Triscuits®, pita chips, or crackers.

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 12 oz package fresh cranberries
1/4 C green onion, chopped
1/4 C cilantro, chopped
1 small jalapeno pepper
1 1/4 C sugar
1/4 t cumin
2 T lemon juice
dash salt
2 8 oz packages cream cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Put your cranberries in a food processor. I used my mini chopper (one batch of CranberryWoodChipDelight was enough for me. The blender and I aren't speaking to each other at this point .) You could also, just chop them up. 2. Chop up your green onion, cilantro, and jalapeno pepper into small pieces. Careful of the seeds now. Throw on a pair of rubber gloves or something, please. The seeds are the hot part of the pepper. If you don't like a lot of heat on the old pallet, just leave the jalapeno out. 3. Add all ingredients (but the cream cheese and the wheat thins) into a bowl. Mix them all together, cover and store in the fridge for at least 4 hours. The sugar needs some time to soak in to the cranberries and break up their bitter taste. 4. When you are ready to serve, place your cream cheese bricks on a plate. 5. Spread the cream cheese out as evenly as you can. 6. Pour your cranberry mixture over the cream cheese. 7. Spread it all around. 8. Serve immediately with Wheat Thins, Ritz Crackers or Tortilla Chips.

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 8

12 oz fresh cranberries--chopped in food processor
1/4 c green onion--chopped
1/4 c fresh cilantro--chopped
1 small jalapeno--chopped
1 1/4 c sugar
1/4 tsp cumin
dash(es) salt
2 8oz pkg cream cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together the first 8 ingredients. Add the seeds of the jalapeno if you want a spicier dip.
  • 2. Chill 4 hours or overnight. The sugar needs to seep into the berries.
  • 3. Spread the cream cheese on a serving platter. You can use the one with chives too.
  • 4. Use a slotted spoon to spoon the cranberry mixture evenly over the cream cheese on the platter.
  • 5. Serve with tortilla chips, wheat thins or spread on buns for ham sandwiches! MMMM!

Tips:

  • Use fresh cranberries for the best flavor. Frozen cranberries can also be used, but they should be thawed before using.
  • If you don't have a food processor, you can chop the cranberries by hand. Just be sure to chop them finely so that they blend well with the other ingredients.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar in the recipe to suit your taste. If you like a sweeter dip, add more sugar. If you prefer a tarter dip, use less sugar.
  • The dip can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Just be sure to bring it to room temperature before serving.
  • Serve the dip with crackers, fruit, or vegetables. It's also a great addition to a cheeseboard.

Conclusion:

This cranberry cream cheese dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that's perfect for any occasion. It's creamy, tangy, and sweet, with a beautiful pop of color from the cranberries. Whether you're serving it at a party or enjoying it as a snack at home, this dip is sure to be a hit.
