CRANBERRY CARAMEL SAUCE

Cranberry Caramel Sauce image

Categories     Sauce     Food Processor     Dessert     Thanksgiving     Quick & Easy     Low Sodium     Cranberry     Fall     Chill     Gourmet

Yield Makes about 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 cup picked-over fresh or frozen cranberries
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • In a food processor purée cranberries and transfer to a small bowl.
  • In a dry heavy saucepan cook sugar over moderate heat, stirring with a fork, until melted and cook, without stirring, swirling pan, until a golden caramel. Remove pan from heat and carefully add water and cranberry purée (caramel will steam and harden). Return pan to heat and simmer sauce, stirring, 10 minutes, or until caramel is dissolved. Pour sauce through a fine sieve into a heatproof bowl, pressing hard on solids, and cool completely. Sauce may be made 4 days ahead and chilled, covered. Bring sauce to room temperature before serving.

Tips for Making the Perfect Cranberry Cake with Caramel Sauce:

  • Fresh Cranberries Are Key: For the best flavor, use fresh cranberries. Frozen cranberries can also be used, but they may release more water, which can affect the consistency of the cake.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter can result in a tough, dense cake. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use Quality Ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will greatly impact the flavor of your cake. Use fresh butter, eggs, and flour, and a good quality caramel sauce.
  • Bake the Cake Until Just Done: Overbaking the cake will dry it out. Test the cake for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Let the Cake Cool Completely Before Frosting: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting and running off the cake.

Conclusion:

This cranberry cake with caramel sauce is a delicious and festive dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist, flavorful cake and rich, decadent caramel sauce, this cake is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special dessert, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
