Yield Makes about 4 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 12-ounce container frozen cranberry juice cocktail, thawed
1 cup water
1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 6-ounce package dried tart cherries*
1 12-ounce bag cranberries

Steps:

  • Bring first 5 ingredients to boil in heavy medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add cherries; cook 2 minutes. Serve cold or at room temperature.
  • Available at specialty foods stores, natural foods stores, and supermarkets

Tips:

  • Fresh Cranberries: Use fresh cranberries for the best flavor and texture. Frozen cranberries can also be used, but they may need to be thawed before cooking.
  • Tartness Balance: Dried cherries add a sweet and tart flavor to the sauce. If you prefer a less tart sauce, you can reduce the amount of dried cherries or add a little sugar to taste.
  • Cooking Time: The sauce should be cooked until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
  • Serving Suggestions: Cranberry and dried cherry sauce is a delicious accompaniment to turkey, chicken, pork, or ham. It can also be used as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or French toast.

Conclusion:

Cranberry and dried cherry sauce is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you are serving it for a holiday meal or a weeknight dinner, this sauce is sure to be a hit.
