Italian Crab Salad, Spread or Dip image

Make ahead. Great blend of flavors for a zippy salad, spread, or dip. Be sure to allow for refrigeration to get the best melding of ingredients. Can't remember the origin of this recipe; made some ingredient and amount changes. For dip: double the dressing. Cooking time is chilling time.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh crab meat: Use the freshest crab meat you can find for the best flavor and texture. Fresh crab meat should be firm and opaque, with a sweet, briny smell.
  • Use high-quality mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is a key ingredient in both crab dip and crab salad, so it's important to use a good quality mayonnaise that you enjoy the taste of.
  • Don't overmix the crab dip or crab salad: Overmixing can make the dip or salad tough and rubbery. Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined.
  • Chill the crab dip or crab salad before serving: Chilling allows the flavors to meld and makes the dip or salad easier to spread or spoon.
  • Serve the crab dip or crab salad with your favorite crackers, bread, or vegetables: Some popular options include Ritz crackers, melba toast, and celery sticks.
