Number Of Ingredients 10

1 package yellow cake mix
1/3 cup margarine, softened
1 each egg
1 can apple pie filling
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 each egg

Steps:

  • HEAT oven to 350. IN large bowl, combine mix, margarine and 1 egg at low speed until crumbly. Press into ungreased 13x9 pan; spread with pie filling. COMBINE brown sugar, nuts and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. IN small bowl, blend sour cream, egg and vanilla. Pour over sugar mixture. BAKE at 350 for 40-50 minutes or until top is golden brown.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn apples are all good choices.
  • If you don't have a pastry blender, you can use two forks to cut the butter into the flour.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the crust tough.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. This will make it easier to work with.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the apples. This will help them keep their shape when they are baked.
  • Don't overcrowd the apples in the baking dish. They need room to cook evenly.
  • Bake the apples until they are tender and starting to brown.
  • Serve the apples warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

This country apple dessert is a classic for a reason. It's simple to make, yet always delicious. The combination of sweet apples, flaky crust, and warm spices is irresistible. Whether you serve it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this apple dessert is sure to be a hit.
