Time 10m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon onion powder

Steps:

  • Combine dry ingredients.
  • Add egg and milk.
  • Stir well.
  • Should be the consistency of bread batter.
  • If too thin add more corn meal or flour.
  • Drop by teaspoonful into hot grease.
  • Cook until brown.

Tips:

  • For a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior, make sure to use cold beer in the batter.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the hush puppies tough.
  • Use a deep fryer or a large pot with at least 3 inches of oil to fry the hush puppies. The oil should be heated to 350 degrees F before frying.
  • Fry the hush puppies in small batches so that they don't overcrowd the pot. Overcrowding will cause the oil temperature to drop and the hush puppies will not cook evenly.
  • Drain the hush puppies on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Serve the hush puppies hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce, ranch dressing, or honey mustard.

Conclusion:

These hush puppies are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that are perfect for any occasion. They are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and full of flavor.
