PERFECT SUGAR COOKIE GLAZE
I needed an easy glaze the hardened quickly (instead of over night like so many) but one that still had good flavor. This dries hard enough to stack the cookies. Note: Make one batch at a time. It's unmanageable in anything larger. Children's water color brushes or those used for painting chocolate molds work well. Make sure to put down wax paper or parchment paper on your work surface and prepare for messy kidlets. Originally found at All Recipes

Steps:
- Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan with a whisk.
- Bring to a boil and boil until the sugar dissolves and the syrup turns clear.
- Make this glaze before you begin making cookies, and allow it to cool to slightly above room temperature while you make and bake your cookies. When the cookies and the syrup are cool, brush each cookie with a very thin coat of glaze and sprinkle on decorations or large-crystal sugar.
- Allow glaze to dry for at least an hour before stacking cookies. Thin glaze will dry faster than a thick coat of glaze.

Steps:
- Cookie: Combine the flour, soda and salt and toss together. Set aside. Cream the butter on high until pale yellow, scraping down the bowl frequently. Add the sugar and turn to medium speed. Beat for 2 minutes, until soft and almost white. Add the eggs and vanilla, beat about 30 seconds. Add the flour mixture and mix on low about 30 seconds. Form 2 separate pieces and wrap in waxed paper. Freeze for 20 to 30 minutes. When you're ready to roll the dough, sprinkle surface lightly with flour and sprinkle top of dough lightly as well. Icing: Mix all ingredients together. Stir until smooth. Glaze should be thick but soft enough to set.

SUGAR COOKIE GLAZE
This glaze dries hard which makes it great for taking along or showcasing in a pretty glass cookie jar. I make sugar cookies iced with this glaze for every event I can think of, from Christmas to the 4th of July. Once you try it you'll love it.

Steps:
- 1. Stir ingredients together with a fork until smooth, adding water a little at a time. You made need more, you made need less. Less water makes a thicker glaze.
- 2. It starts out as a white glaze but can be easily altered with any food coloring. I prefer using paste food colorings as not to thin the glaze. In the photo I added a few dots of color on a white iced cookie and swirled it with a toothpick. It drags easily.
- 3. So much fun to work with, the possibilities are endless!
MERINGUE POWDER BUTTERCREAM COOKIE FROSTING/GLAZE RECIPE - (4.2/5)

Steps:
- *FROSTING:* Place half of the powdered sugar and the meringue powder in the bowl of an electric mixer. Whisk together well. Turn on mixer (use whip attachment) and, while motor is running, slowly stream in the water. Mix until everything is incorporated. Turn mixer to high speed and whip until stiff peaks form. Add flavorings and mix well. Change to paddle attachment (for stand mixer) or dough hook (for Bosch). If using a hand mixer, use the same beaters you were using before. Add remaining powdered sugar and shortening and whip for 2-3 minutes more. Note: Don't skimp on the whipping time after adding the shortening. You really need to whip it well to prevent separation later. *GLAZE:* Frosting Prep: Making Glaze Glazing is a technique that creates that super-smooth look you see on fancy cookies. Basically, "glaze" is just watered down frosting. Here is a basic how-to for making the glaze. 1. After you have colored all of your frosting, get a small container for each glaze color you will need (clean butter tubs and yogurt containers work great for this and you can throw them away when you are done!). 2. Put the desired colors of frosting in the containers by either mixing the color right in the container or squeezing it from a decorating bag. 3. Add water to the container(s) a few drops at a time, stirring after each addition. A basic rule of thumb for a good consistency is that a drop of the icing should disappear into the mass on the count of 6 or 7. It will be similar in consistency to Elmer's glue: fairly runny, but not so thin that it's hard to control. 4. Keep glaze colors covered while not in use. If your containers do not have lids, I recommend covering them with saran wrap and then a damp towel. 5. The glaze will separate as it sits, so you will need to stir the glaze well before and during use
Tips:
- Use fresh ingredients. The quality of your ingredients will directly impact the taste of your glaze. Make sure to use fresh, high-quality ingredients whenever possible.
- Don't overmix the glaze. Overmixing can make the glaze thick and clumpy. Mix the glaze just until the ingredients are combined.
- Use the right consistency. The consistency of the glaze is important for achieving the desired results. If the glaze is too thick, it will be difficult to spread. If the glaze is too thin, it will run off the cookies. Adjust the consistency of the glaze by adding more or less liquid as needed.
- Let the glaze set properly. Before serving the cookies, let the glaze set properly. This will help the glaze to firm up and prevent it from running off the cookies.
- Get creative with your decorations. You can use a variety of decorating techniques to create beautiful and festive cookies. Try using sprinkles, colored sugar, or edible glitter to add some extra flair to your cookies.
Conclusion:
With these tips in mind, you're sure to create delicious and beautiful glazed cookies that everyone will love. Whether you're making cookies for a special occasion or just for a sweet treat, glazing is a great way to add flavor and decoration. So experiment with different flavors and techniques, and have fun creating your own unique glazed cookies!
