It's been popular besides at church bazaars I've taken it to. I grew up on a farm, and my husband (he's a cattle buyer) and I farmed for 20 years before moving to town. WINTER CHUTNEY

This is a very tasty chutney and so easy too, it works well with just about anything but is perticularly good with cheese and crackers, or sausages. I like to give it as presents around christmas, folk are always pleased to receive some. The recipe can be easily halved or doubled with no change to the flavour it will just take a bit longer or shorter time to make. make sure you chop your apples and onion quite small.

Time 1h

Yield 8 Jars

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 lbs tart apples
1 lb red onion
1/2 lb sultana
3/4 lb dark brown sugar
1 1/2 pints cider vinegar

  • pot up into sterilized jars when still hot and seal.
  • Leave to cool then label and store or give as gifts.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, high-quality fruits: The quality of your chutney will depend on the quality of your fruits. Make sure to use ripe, in-season fruits that are free of blemishes.
  • Use a variety of fruits: Don't be afraid to mix and match different fruits to create a unique and flavorful chutney. Some good combinations include apples and pears, peaches and apricots, or figs and grapes.
  • Add spices and seasonings to taste: Chutney is a great way to experiment with different spices and seasonings. Some common additions include cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg. You can also add a bit of heat with chili peppers or cayenne pepper.
  • Let the chutney mature: Chutney gets better with age, so be sure to let it mature for at least a few weeks before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Store the chutney properly: Once the chutney is mature, store it in a cool, dark place. It will keep for several months, but it's best to use it within a year.

Winter fruit chutney is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It can be served as a side dish with grilled meats or fish, or it can be used as a sandwich spread or dipping sauce. It's also a great addition to cheese plates and charcuterie boards.
