Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 ¾ cups flour
2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup butter (softened)
2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
12 ounces milk chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Sift flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and set aside.
  • In another bowl combine butter and brown sugar using a mixer until blended.
  • Add eggs, one at a time to sugar mixture, mixing on low in between each addition.
  • Add vanilla and mix well.
  • Add in the flour mixture and mix until combined, then fold in chips and pecans.
  • Lightly spray a 9 x 13 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray and spread batter evenly into dish.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.
  • Do not over bake.

Tips for Making Perfect Congo Bars:

  • Use room temperature butter and eggs. This will help the ingredients blend together more smoothly and create a more even batter.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This will incorporate air into the mixture, making the bars lighter and more tender.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. This will help prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the bars tough.
  • Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. This will help the bars bake evenly.
  • Bake the bars at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the bars cool completely before frosting. This will help the frosting set properly.
  • Use a variety of toppings to decorate the bars. Some popular options include chocolate chips, nuts, and sprinkles.

Conclusion:

Congo bars are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. With their chocolatey flavor and gooey center, they are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you are looking for a sweet treat to make, give Congo bars a try. You won't be disappointed!
