1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-3 teaspoons instant coffee, to your taste

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Add the butter and use your fingers to mix the butter into the flour until a crumble forms.4. Spoon half the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly over the batter. Then, gently dollop the warmed cream cheese over the batter and spread in an even layer. Spoon the remaining batter over the cream cheese in an even layer. Top evenly with the buttery streusel mix. 5. Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool 30 minutes and then invert the cake onto a plate, flipping it back upright onto a serving plate. 6. To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and coffee powder. Add a pinch of flaky sea salt. Drizzle the glaze evenly over the cake and let set 10 minutes. Serve the cake slightly warm or at room temperature. Keep cake stored, covered in the fridge.

Time 1h45m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon instant coffee powder
Pinch salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
1/3 cup sour cream
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray and line with parchment a 9-by-9-inch baking pan; spray the parchment as well.
  • For the crumb topping: In a medium bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, instant coffee powder and salt. Add the melted butter and mix until crumbs form that you can clump together in your hand. Set aside.
  • For the cake: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and cardamom. In a smaller bowl, whisk together the coffee and sour cream until smooth.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing until each is well combined. Then add the vanilla extract and beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Starting and ending with the dry ingredients, alternate adding the flour mixture and the coffee mixture to the stand mixer; mix each addition well, scraping the bowl each additions.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and top with crumb topping, spreading it evenly. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool for 20 to 30 minutes before cutting and serving.

Tips:

  • Use fresh coffee: Stale coffee will result in a less flavorful cake. For the best results, use freshly ground coffee beans.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will result in a tough cake. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake at the right temperature: The cake should be baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 50-60 minutes. If the cake is baked at too high a temperature, it will brown too quickly and the inside will be undercooked.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting. If you try to frost the cake while it is still warm, the frosting will be runny and difficult to spread.
  • Use a variety of toppings: You can use a variety of toppings on this cake, such as chocolate chips, nuts, or even fresh fruit. Get creative and have fun!

Conclusion:

This coffee house coffee cake is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. It is a moist and flavorful cake with a rich coffee flavor. The cake is also very versatile and can be topped with a variety of different toppings. So next time you are looking for a delicious and easy-to-make coffee cake, give this recipe a try!
