Time 1h25m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (5 lb) fully cooked shank-half ham
1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
3/4 cup hot water
1/2 cup dark brown sugar (packed)
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Trim all fat from ham. Place ham on rack in roasting pan and bake 30 minutes.
  • Dissolve espresso in hot water in 2-cup measure. Add remaining ingredients and stir to blend. Baste ham with coffee mixture and continue to bake for 45 minutes, basting every 10-15 minutes.
  • Let stand 5-10 minutes, then cut into thin slices and serve.

Tips:

  • Choosing the right ham: For the best results, select a fully cooked ham with a bone-in. The bone helps to keep the ham moist and flavorful during cooking.
  • Preparing the glaze: To make the coffee glaze, use a dark roast coffee for a richer flavor. Make sure the glaze is simmering when you add the ham, and baste the ham every 15 minutes to ensure an even glaze.
  • Cooking the ham: Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) before placing the ham in the oven. Cover the ham with foil and bake for 1 hour per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
  • Resting the ham: Once the ham is cooked, let it rest for at least 15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the ham, resulting in a more tender and flavorful meat.

Conclusion:

Coffee-glazed ham is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any special occasion. With its sweet and savory glaze, the ham is sure to be a hit with your guests. Whether you are a seasoned cook or a beginner, this recipe is a great option for creating a memorable meal.
