This is the classic waldorf salad as first made.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 c mayonnaise
3 Tbsp sugar
3 Tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
9 edium red apples, cored and diced
3 c sliced celery
1 1/2 c chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • 1. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sugar, lemon juice, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  • 2. In a large bowl, combine the apples and celery.
  • 3. Pour the mayonnaise mixture over the apples and celery and toss until coated.
  • 4. Cover and chill for 30 minutes. Just before serving, toss in the walnuts.

This is a refreshing Treat. Said to have originated at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City in 1893. It's a time worn favorite of many, and always a winner at our Table.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 c english walnuts chopped coarsley
1/4 c celery chopped medium fine size of raisins
1/2 c raisins dark preferred
1 sweet apple red traditional i like granny smith
2 Tbsp hellman's mayo heaping
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice or real lemon (optional)
1/2 tsp sugar
dash(es) salt (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Cut apple in quarters then remove core and dice small to medium coarse. I leave the peel on apple.
  • 2. Chop Celery to size of raisins or slightly larger. Chop English Walnuts medium coarse.
  • 3. Place all in bowl and add Mayo, Lemon Juice and Sugar. Dash of Salt (Optional). Toss and mix all gently.
  • 4. Add a little additional Mayo and Sugar if you wish. Sprinkle with a few additional Raisins if you wish. Serve. Enjoy.
  • 5. Note: 1/3 cup Red Seedless Grapes, halved and then quartered, could be added.
