CLAM DIP IN A BREAD BOWL RECIPE - (4.6/5)

Clam Dip in a Bread Bowl Recipe - (4.6/5) image

Provided by á-44409

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 loaf round bread, unsliced
3 cans (6.5 oz) minced clams, drain 2 cans & keep the juice of one can
3 packages (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
4 green onions, chopped
3 Tablespoons lemon juice
1/2-3/4 cup parsley, chopped

Steps:

  • Slice top of loaf, saving the top, and tear out the insides to hollow the loaf, leaving about 1 inch of bread all around the bowl. Mix all ingredients together and pour into loaf. Put top back on and wrap tightly in heavy foil. Bake at 250 degrees for 3 hours. Let set at least 20 minutes, so it won't be too runny. It's best after an hour, still warm but firm. I've taken it to the office and had it at break time (approx 3 hours after it came out of the oven) and it was great. Can be eaten cold as well.

CLAM DIP

Clam Dip image

Here now a taste of New England game days circa the time when televisions had dials instead of remotes and, if you couldn't get fresh clams to steam and chop, a can or two from the supermarket would do just fine. (That's still true!) The recipe comes from Brendan McCarthy, a saltwater fishing guide whose charters range from Brooklyn to Montauk, and south to Florida, the Bahamas and the azure waters off Panama, but whose tastes and kitchen skills were first developed in New England and see an apogee in the simplicity of this recipe. The dip benefits from some curing time in the refrigerator and, for some, a heavy hand on the cayenne.

  • Add the lemon juice, Worcestershire, cayenne pepper, salt and white pepper. Adjust seasonings to taste. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, at least an hour.

Tips:

  • Use fresh clams: Fresh clams will give your dip the best flavor. If you can't find fresh clams, you can use frozen clams that have been thawed.
  • Chop the clams finely: This will help the clams to distribute evenly throughout the dip.
  • Use a good quality cream cheese: The cream cheese is the base of the dip, so it's important to use a good quality one.
  • Don't overmix the dip: Overmixing the dip will make it tough. Mix it just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dip before serving: Chilling the dip will help it to set and make it easier to scoop.
  • Serve the dip with a variety of dippers: Crackers, bread, and vegetables are all great options.

Conclusion:

Clam dip in a bread bowl is a delicious and easy appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. It's made with fresh clams, cream cheese, sour cream, and seasonings, and it's served in a hollowed-out bread bowl. This dip is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering.
