BEST CINNAMON TOAST EVER

Best Cinnamon Toast Ever image

Provided by Stacey Little | Southern Bite

Categories     Bread     Breakfast     Snack

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/4 cup unsalted butter, well softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
pinch of salt
4 slices bread

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small bowl, combine the butter, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. You'll need the butter to be pretty soft to get it all combined.
  • Spread the mixture evenly over one side of each of the 4 pieces of bread, being sure to cover all the way up to the edges of the bread. It's going to seem like a lot, but trust me.
  • Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake it in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  • Next turn the broiler on and broil the toast until it is deep golden brown and the sugar is bubbling. I usually stand right at the oven with the door cracked so I can watch it best and prevent it from burning.
  • Slice in halves, if desired, and serve.

This scrumptious make-ahead breakfast casserole is so easy to prepare, it should be illegal. Here's how to make Cinnamon Baked French Toast.

Categories     breakfast     main dish

Time 1h15m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 loaf crusty sourdough or French bread
8 whole eggs
2 c. whole milk
1/2 c. heavy whipping cream
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. vanilla extract
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. firmly-packed brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 pinch nutmeg (optional)
1 stick cold butter, cut into pieces
Fresh fruit (optional)

Steps:

  • Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with butter. Tear bread into chunks (or cut into cubes) and evenly distribute in the pan.
  • In a medium sized bowl, mix together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla. Pour evenly over the bread. Cover tightly and store in the fridge for several hours or overnight.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add nutmeg if desired. Add butter pieces and cut them into the dry mixture until mixture resembles fine pebbles. Store in a Ziploc in the fridge.
  • When you're ready to bake the casserole, preheat oven to 350° F. Remove casserole from the fridge and sprinkle crumb mixture over the top. (If you're using fruit, sprinkle on before the crumb mixture.) Bake for 45 minutes for a softer, more bread pudding texture. Bake 1 hour or more for a firmer, less liquid texture.
  • Scoop out individual portions. Top with butter and drizzle with maple syrup.

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 slices bread (whole wheat is great!)
1 stick salted butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar (more to taste
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (more to taste)
1/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Smush softened butter with a fork. Dump in sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg, if using. Stir to completely combine. Spread on slices of bread, completely covering the surface all the way to the edges. Place toast on a cookie sheet. Place cookies sheet into the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Turn on the broiler and broil until golden brown and bubbling. Watch so it won't burn! Remove from oven and cut slices into halves diagonally. UPDATE: I have found that using my toaster oven is a faster/easier way, when making this for two people. I toast the bread, until just before it's golden brown. I then slather on the cinnamon-butter and turn the toaster oven to "broil". Watch is, carefully, and remove just as the topping begins to bubble. This way, I don't have "soggy bread syndrome" on the bottom. Works great!

Time 10m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 slices cinnamon swirl bread
4 teaspoons butter, at room temperature
4 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup mini marshmallows

Steps:

  • Preheat the broiler and set a rack close to the broiler.
  • Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Put the bread on a sheet pan and toast the bread lightly on both sides under the broiler. When the bread is hot, spread each piece with 1 teaspoon butter. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar equally among the slices of toast. Top with equal quantities of the chocolate chips. Finally, lay 1/4 cup of the mini marshmallows on each slice.
  • Place under the broiler and broil just until the marshmallows are golden brown, watching them so they don't burn, about 1 minute. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use thick-sliced bread; it will hold up better to the cinnamon sugar mixture and won't get soggy.
  • If you don't have a kitchen torch, you can broil the cinnamon toast in the oven for a few minutes, watching it closely to prevent burning.
  • Feel free to experiment with different toppings for your cinnamon toast. Some popular options include butter, cream cheese, and fruit.
  • If you have leftover cinnamon sugar mixture, you can store it in an airtight container at room temperature for later use.
  • Cinnamon toast is a versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's also a great snack or dessert.
