1 cup white sugar

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium-low heat, stir together the sugar and half-and-half. When the mixture begins to simmer, remove from heat, and whisk half of the mixture into the eggs. Set aside to cool.

Ice Cream Caramel Cinnamon Rolls from Frozen Bread Dough image

my husbands favorite -- he likes it made with butter brickle or toffee ice cream. The actual recipe calls for vanilla. You could also add chopped pecans to the carmel. From the Brown County South Dakota Triangle Extension club

Time 35m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup ice cream, Vanilla, butter brickle or similar flavor all work well
cinnamon
sugar

Steps:

  • break bread dough into chunks.
  • roll in cinnamon sugar.
  • put in 9" x 13" pan.
  • let rise until at least doubled (2 hours?).
  • Melt together butter, brown sugar and ice cream in a saucepan.
  • heat until it begins to boil.
  • pour mixture over dough.
  • bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.
  • let stand for about 20 minutes before eating but they are best eaten warm.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ice cream. The better the ice cream, the better the cinnamon rolls will be. Look for ice cream that is made with real cream and has a high butterfat content.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make the cinnamon rolls tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together, then stop.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place. The dough needs to rise in a warm place in order to double in size. This will take about an hour.
  • Spread the filling evenly over the dough. Be sure to spread the filling all the way to the edges of the dough. This will help to ensure that the cinnamon rolls are evenly flavored.
  • Roll the dough up tightly. Roll the dough up tightly, starting from one long edge and rolling towards the opposite edge. This will help to keep the filling inside the cinnamon rolls.
  • Cut the cinnamon rolls evenly. Use a sharp knife to cut the cinnamon rolls evenly. This will help to ensure that they bake evenly.
  • Bake the cinnamon rolls at a high temperature. The cinnamon rolls should be baked at a high temperature (425 degrees Fahrenheit) for about 20 minutes. This will help to create a crispy exterior and a gooey interior.
  • Let the cinnamon rolls cool before frosting them. Let the cinnamon rolls cool for at least 10 minutes before frosting them. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
