Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375°F/190°C.
- Cream sugar, butter, shortening and eggs.
- In a seperate bowl sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; then beat into butter mix and mix well.
- Shape dough into 1 inch balls, roll in colored sugar and place on cookie sheet.
- Bake for about 9-11 minutes.
- Temperature and time may vary according to your oven's accuracy (just eat the first one after it cooled off).
- Let cookies rest about 10 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
Tips:
- For the best results, use high-quality cinnamon. Look for Ceylon cinnamon, which has a more delicate flavor than Cassia cinnamon.
- To make sure the cookies are evenly coated in cinnamon sugar, place them in a resealable bag and shake them until they are coated.
- If the dough is too sticky to handle, place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
- To prevent the cookies from spreading too much, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
- Bake the cookies until the edges are just beginning to brown. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
Conclusion:
Cinnamon crinkles are a delicious and festive holiday cookie. They are easy to make and are always a hit with family and friends. With their soft and chewy texture and sweet, cinnamon-sugar coating, these cookies are sure to be a favorite treat this holiday season.
