Time 14m

Yield 36 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 large eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
colored sugar sprinkle, to roll cookies in

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F/190°C.
  • Cream sugar, butter, shortening and eggs.
  • In a seperate bowl sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; then beat into butter mix and mix well.
  • Shape dough into 1 inch balls, roll in colored sugar and place on cookie sheet.
  • Bake for about 9-11 minutes.
  • Temperature and time may vary according to your oven's accuracy (just eat the first one after it cooled off).
  • Let cookies rest about 10 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use high-quality cinnamon. Look for Ceylon cinnamon, which has a more delicate flavor than Cassia cinnamon.
  • To make sure the cookies are evenly coated in cinnamon sugar, place them in a resealable bag and shake them until they are coated.
  • If the dough is too sticky to handle, place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
  • To prevent the cookies from spreading too much, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
  • Bake the cookies until the edges are just beginning to brown. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.

Conclusion:

Cinnamon crinkles are a delicious and festive holiday cookie. They are easy to make and are always a hit with family and friends. With their soft and chewy texture and sweet, cinnamon-sugar coating, these cookies are sure to be a favorite treat this holiday season.
