Tips:

  • For the perfect caramel, use a heavy-bottomed saucepan and stir constantly. Over low to medium heat, cook the sugar until it reaches a medium amber color.
  • To prevent the caramel from crystallizing, make sure to add the butter and cream slowly while stirring constantly.
  • To achieve a smooth and glossy caramel, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve.
  • For a more flavorful caramel, use a combination of brown sugar and white sugar.
  • To make the apples more tender, cook them in a mixture of water and apple cider.
  • To prevent the apples from becoming mushy, cook them until they are just tender and still hold their shape.
  • For a crispy apple filling, coat the apples in a mixture of flour, sugar, and spices before cooking.
  • To make the caramel sauce extra rich and decadent, add a splash of heavy cream or half-and-half.
  • For a vegan caramel sauce, substitute coconut milk or almond milk for the dairy milk.
  • For a gluten-free caramel sauce, use gluten-free flour.
